Connect Claude, ChatGPT, or Grok to Strimm

Strimm hosts a remote MCP server. After you connect it, Claude, ChatGPT, or Grok can work in your studio as you: create channels, import videos, build schedules, set VAST tags, create HLS links, manage TV apps, and read analytics.

You sign in with your Strimm account in the browser. The assistant never sees your password.

MCP server URL (copy this exactly):

https://newlook2.strimm.com/mcp

If you use a staging host, copy the URL from Developers → MCP instead.

You need an active Strimm account. Features such as HLS, VAST, analytics, and TV apps still follow your plan. If a tool is not in your plan, the assistant will say so in plain language.

What happens when you connect

  1. You paste the MCP URL into Claude, ChatGPT, or Grok.
  2. A Strimm login page opens. Sign in (email/password or Google).
  3. A consent screen lists permissions (channels, videos, schedule, VAST, HLS, apps, analytics). Click Allow access.
  4. You return to the assistant. It can now call Strimm tools as your user.

Permissions and security

When you connect an AI assistant, it receives access to your Strimm account for the scopes shown on the consent screen. Keep the following in mind:

  • The assistant acts as you — actions it takes count as your actions in Strimm.
  • Never share your Strimm password, payment details, or ad-network credentials with an AI assistant. The MCP connection does not require any of these.
  • Review what the assistant plans to do before confirming significant changes (deleting schedules, changing VAST tags, modifying channel settings).
  • Only connect AI assistants you trust. Anyone who can use your connected assistant can take actions inside your Strimm account.

Safe vs destructive actions

Safe (read-only or easily reversible):

  • Listing channels, videos, schedules, or analytics
  • Creating new channels or importing videos
  • Adding schedule blocks
  • Creating HLS links

Destructive or significant (review before confirming):

  • Deleting or clearing schedules
  • Changing VAST tag URLs
  • Modifying channel settings or privacy
  • Creating or modifying TV apps

Claude

Custom connectors work on Claude.ai, Claude Desktop, and Claude Code (Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise). Free accounts are limited to one custom connector.

Pro and Max (and most individual accounts)

  1. Open claude.ai and sign in.
  2. Go to Customize → Connectors.
  3. Click +, then Add custom connector.
  4. Name it Strimm.
  5. Paste https://newlook2.strimm.com/mcp as the server URL.
  6. Leave Advanced settings (OAuth Client ID and Secret) empty. Strimm registers the client for you.
  7. Click Add.
  8. When the Strimm window opens, sign in and click Allow access.
  9. In a chat, click +Connectors and turn Strimm on for that conversation.
  10. Try: “List my Strimm channels” or “What is on the schedule today?”

Team and Enterprise

An Owner must add the connector once for the organization:

  1. Go to Organization settings → Connectors.
  2. Click AddCustomWeb.
  3. Paste https://newlook2.strimm.com/mcp and click Add. Leave OAuth client fields empty.

Then each member goes to Customize → Connectors, finds Strimm, clicks Connect, and signs in with their own Strimm account.

ChatGPT

Custom MCP connectors need a paid ChatGPT plan (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu) and Developer mode. Menu names move occasionally; look for Connectors, Apps, or Plugins.

  1. Open chatgpt.com and sign in.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Turn on Developer mode. It is usually under Apps & Connectors → Advanced, or Settings → Security and login.
  4. Accept the warning that custom connectors can act on your behalf.
  5. Create a custom connector (Create, Add custom connector, or the + on the Apps/Plugins page).
  6. Name: Strimm.
  7. MCP server URL: https://newlook2.strimm.com/mcp
  8. Authentication: OAuth (not API key / token).
  9. Confirm you trust the connector, then click Create.
  10. Sign in to Strimm and click Allow access.
  11. Start a new chat. Open the + / More menu, enable the Strimm connector, then ask it to list your channels.

On Business, Enterprise, or Edu, an admin may need to allow connectors for the workspace first.

Grok

  1. Open grok.com/connectors and sign in.
  2. Click New Connector.
  3. Choose Custom (not a catalog app).
  4. Paste https://newlook2.strimm.com/mcp.
  5. Complete Strimm sign-in and click Allow access.
  6. Start a new Grok chat and ask it to list your Strimm channels.

On Grok Business or Enterprise, a team admin may need to provision the connector in the cloud console before members can connect.

Grok must reach Strimm over the public internet. A local-only URL will not work from grok.com.

What you can ask

  • List or create channels, and update channel settings
  • Search YouTube, Vimeo, or Dailymotion and add videos
  • Import a custom MP4 or HLS URL from your CDN
  • Create, publish, loop, or delete schedule blocks
  • Read or save VAST ad tags
  • Create HLS output links (play and EPG URLs)
  • Create a white-label TV or mobile app with default branding
  • Pull analytics for a date range

The assistant cannot delete a channel. Do that in Studio.

Revoke access

  1. In Strimm, open Studio → Connected Agents.
  2. Find Claude, ChatGPT, or Grok and click Disconnect.
  3. Optionally remove the connector in that product's settings as well.

Disconnecting in Strimm revokes access immediately. The assistant loses all ability to call Strimm tools. You can reconnect at any time by following the setup steps above.

If something fails

  • Login opens, then nothing happens. Allow pop-ups for the assistant's site, then try Connect again.
  • Consent screen never appears. Confirm you are logged into the Strimm account that owns the channels. Try an incognito window.
  • “HLS output is not in your plan” (or VAST / analytics / apps). That feature is not on your Strimm subscription. Upgrade, or use a different tool.
  • ChatGPT cannot add the connector. Developer mode must be on, and custom connectors need a paid ChatGPT plan.
  • Claude Team members cannot see Strimm. An Owner must add https://newlook2.strimm.com/mcp under Organization settings first.
  • The assistant has no tools after connecting. Enable the Strimm connector in that chat (Claude: + → Connectors; ChatGPT: + / More menu).
  • MCP permission error. Disconnect and reconnect — the consent screen will let you re-authorize the current permission scopes.
