Advertising with VAST tags lets you run video ads on your channel and earn from your viewers without charging them directly. You supply VAST tag URLs from your own ad network, and Strimm plays ads during your programming.
How it works
Strimm uses client-side ad insertion (CSAI). The player fetches ads from your ad network using your VAST tag URL and plays them as pre-rolls before videos. You need an account with a video ad network (such as Google Ad Manager, SpotX, or similar) that provides VAST tags.
Setting up VAST ads
- In the Production Studio, click Integrate VAST Tag in the left sidebar.
- Choose the platform you want to configure: Web, Roku, Mobile, Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV, or Google TV.
- Paste your VAST tag URL and save.
- Repeat for each platform where you want ads to run.
See Running ads with VAST tags and Per-Platform VAST Configuration for detailed setup steps.
Important limits and expectations
- No guaranteed fill or revenue. Whether ads are actually served depends on your ad network's inventory and targeting rules — not Strimm. Strimm provides the delivery infrastructure only.
- Ad blockers. Viewers with browser-based ad blockers may not see ads on the web player.
- Schedule timing. VAST ads can shift your show start times slightly. Those shifts are not reflected in the TV guide.
- Cost metric. Set your ad network cost metric to CPM.
