How to set up and schedule live streams on Strimm using YouTube Live, Vimeo Live, or HLS Live — including platform compatibility and the Default Live Broadcast setting.

Overview

Strimm supports real-time live streaming through YouTube Live, Vimeo Live, or an HLS Live link. Live streams are scheduled separately from your daily pre-recorded program so they don't interfere with your regular schedule.

When a live stream is active, a Live button appears in the top-right corner of your embedded player on your website — alongside the Guide button — to signal an active broadcast.

* Vimeo Live on OTT platforms requires a Vimeo Enterprise plan. YouTube Live is not supported on Roku or Apple TV.

How to Set Up a Live Stream

Step 1 — Add your live event as a video

  1. Go to your channel's Production Studio and click Add Videos (or Get New Videos).
  2. Click Import.
  3. Choose your provider: YouTube, Vimeo, or HLS Live.
    Note: To see the HLS Live option, you must first enable Allow Private Videos in your Channel Settings.
  4. Paste the URL of your live event and proceed.
  5. For HLS Live, add a video title (required) and optionally a thumbnail and description.
  6. Select a category and click through to the next step.

Step 2 — Schedule the live event

  1. Hover over the live event thumbnail in your video library and click the + button.
  2. Select the start date and time and the end date and time for the live event.
  3. Submit — the event is added to your channel schedule automatically. No further scheduling steps needed.

Step 3 — Enable "Default Live Broadcast" (optional)

In your Channel Settings, the Default Live Broadcast toggle makes the live stream play automatically when it's active, overriding your pre-recorded schedule.

Important: Only enable this toggle when a live stream is actively broadcasting. Disable it once the live event ends — otherwise your channel will show no content when there is no active stream.

Notes

  • Live streams appear separately from your daily pre-recorded program in OTT apps as well.
  • YouTube Live embedding outside YouTube.com typically requires 1,000+ subscribers and 4,000+ watch hours on your YouTube channel.
  • HLS Live is the most broadly compatible option — it works on web and all OTT platforms.
