Vimeo API Token for Apps

How to connect your Vimeo account so Vimeo videos play inside your custom Strimm apps on Roku, Fire TV, mobile, and more.

To play Vimeo videos inside your custom Strimm apps (Roku, Fire TV, Mobile, Apple TV, Android TV), you must connect your Vimeo account by providing an API token. Without this, Vimeo videos will not play in your apps even if they play fine on the web player.

Find this in App Settings → scroll to the Vimeo API token section.

Why is a Vimeo API token required?

Strimm's web player can stream Vimeo content through the Vimeo embed player. But in native apps (Roku, Fire TV, etc.), there is no browser embed — the app must access the raw video stream directly via the Vimeo API, which requires an authenticated token from your Vimeo account.

Requirements

  • A paid Vimeo account (Standard plan or higher). Free Vimeo accounts do not provide API access.
  • Only videos from your own Vimeo account can be used — you cannot play other users' Vimeo videos via this integration.

How to get your Vimeo API token

  1. Log in to your Vimeo account and go to vimeo.com/settings/apps.
  2. Create a new app (or select an existing one).
  3. Under Authentication, generate a Personal Access Token with the scopes: public, private, video_files.
  4. Copy the generated token.

For the most up-to-date steps, see the link provided on the App Settings page: "Details on how to get the Api token: Click here."

Adding the token in Strimm

  1. Open App Settings in the studio sidebar.
  2. Scroll to the Vimeo API token section.
  3. Paste your token into the VIMEO API TOKEN field.
  4. Click Save Token.

Once saved, Vimeo videos in your library will be playable inside all your Strimm apps.
