Video-on-Demand (VOD)

Video-on-Demand (VOD) lets your viewers watch any video in your channel's library on their own schedule — not just what's currently on the live broadcast. When VOD is enabled, your channel watch page shows two sections: Scheduled Broadcast (the live 24/7 stream) and Video-on-Demand (VOD).

How VOD works for viewers

When a viewer opens your channel watch page or embedded player, they can switch between:

  • Scheduled Broadcast — your live 24/7 stream, always running according to your schedule
  • Video-on-Demand (VOD) — a catalog of individual videos they can pick and watch anytime

The VOD section only appears once you have added at least one video to your VOD catalog.

Setting up VOD

Step 1: Open the VOD management page

In Production Studio, open your channel and click Video-on-Demand (VOD) in the left sidebar.

Step 2: Select videos to add

Click the All Channel Videos tab. You will see all the videos in your channel library — from YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, or any custom sources you have imported.

  • Check the box on each video you want to include in VOD
  • Use Select all to add your entire library at once
  • Filter by category or provider to find videos faster
  • Click Add Selected when done

Added videos immediately appear on the All VOD Videos tab and become available to viewers.

Step 3: Add more videos to your library (if needed)

If you need to import new videos first, click + Add Videos in the sidebar. You can bring in content from YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, a custom CDN URL, or your existing video library.

Managing your VOD catalog

On the All VOD Videos tab you can:

  • See every video currently in your VOD catalog
  • Search and filter by category or provider
  • Select videos and click Remove Selected to take them out of VOD (they stay in your channel library — nothing is deleted)

There is no limit on how many videos you can add to VOD. Your live schedule and VOD catalog are completely independent — editing one does not affect the other.

VOD across platforms

Once enabled, VOD is available everywhere your channel plays:

  • Web — channel watch page and embedded player both show the Scheduled Broadcast / VOD sections
  • Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV / Google TV — VOD catalog appears as a browsable section alongside the live stream
  • iOS and Android apps — VOD is accessible from the channel screen

VOD and Pay-Per-View

You can charge for individual VOD videos using Pay-Per-View (PPV). Free and paid videos can coexist in the same catalog. Viewers see all videos but are prompted to purchase before watching PPV-protected content. To enable PPV, complete Payment Integration in Studio first (connects your Stripe or PayPal account to Strimm).

Tips for a strong VOD catalog

  • Add your best, most evergreen content — things people will want to watch anytime, not just live
  • Curate rather than dump: 20–50 well-chosen videos is more engaging than your entire library
  • Use descriptive video titles — viewers browse by title and thumbnail, not by schedule slot
  • Mix content lengths: short clips and long-form content give viewers options
